As the days start to warm (and dry) up, don’t you just want to get out on your bike and ride around the neighborhood? Maybe take your two wheels up to get groceries instead of hopping in the car? Grab family and friends and take a rolling stroll? Cycle up to the Farmers’ Market for fresh vegetables?

May 18 is Burien Bike Day, taking place alongside the regional Bike to Work Day.

In preparation, there’s a FREE class on Wednesday, May 9, “Bicycling 101: Getting You and Your Bike Ready to Pedal this Summer”. Maybe you haven’t pulled the bike out of the garage in months… or years! Is it ready to roll? How are the tires and brakes? This FREE class will be held at Bicycles West and will give you a chance to get your bike checked out, talk to the guys about tune-ups and ask any questions about making sure you and your bike are road-worthy.

Bicycles West: 804 SW 151st, Burien, WA 98166 • (206) 242-7910

On Friday, May 18, Burien Town Square will host a Commuter Support Station from 6am – 9am, offering snacks provided by Freggies, as well as advice for those that wish to give bicycle commuting a try.

Later in the morning, from 10am – 11:30 am our first Bike SaFaRi of the year will start out from Burien Town Square. Bike SaFaRis are “Safe Family Rides”, intended to familiarize new cyclists, young and old, with bike competency and safety. The Bike SaFaRis introduce riders to the joy of being on a bike, and provide the camaraderie and security of being in a group. If you’ve felt unsure about your bicycling abilities, bring your helmet and come ride with the us. You can read about an earlier Bike SaFaRi here.
