Come get “creamed” for good causes!

You haven’t laughed this hard or had this much fun in ages…really! It’s “good clean fun”, (except for the creamy mess left behind).

The Pie Joust is basically a whipped cream splatter fest tournament. You face off against a pie-wielding competitor on a bike, and when the judge yells “JOUST!” you ride past each other and try to throw the pie at your competitor. The “least-creamed” goes on to the next round.

Last year, best friends jousted against each other, as did bosses and their employees. Watch and laugh at this video compilation from Seattle Times Photographer, Danny Gawlowski, (posted to YouTube after the 2011 Pie Joust.)

The event provides competition-certified, single speed, beach cruiser bikes outfitted with flags. The flag poles give visual alignment to help the judges decide if contestants are disqualified for ducking. If you want to compete on your own bike, bring it! (It’ll be lubed with whipped cream for years to come.) There will be a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bike) tournament following the World Championship.

Beer and Wine Garden:

If you really don’t feel like throwing a cream pie at friend or foe (or want a break after doing so), you can watch from Town Square’s grassy knoll, or cheer and applaud from the Beer and Wine Garden “Splat Zone”. (Beware: sometimes the cream does fly!)

  • Rule # 3 No Ducking
  • Rule # 4 Referee’s verdict is unimpeachable (no roughing the ref)

Prizes are awarded haphazardly in each bracket for the following:
Costume, Costume concept, Pie-in-face picture, Shower dance, sportsman-like creaming

Immediate Disqualification for the following:
1) Making direct contact with opponent
2) Ducking from well thrown pie (Referee Discretion based upon movement of spine from line of flag pole. Yah, right. Just TRY not to duck a cream pie coming your way!)

Jousting Hints:

  • Cream-in-the-face scores big with judges and the crowd.
  • Judges will often involve the crowd in the decision-making process.
If they don’t think enough cream was smeared, they’ll demand a REJOUST!
  • You DO want to wear a costume, not just for the fun-factor, but because it will
protect your clothes from still smelling like rancid cream 5 months later.

From a handlebar viewpoint, this “Splat Cam!” video let’s you feel the whipped cream in your face!
