Lakewood-column

Last minute tip:  If  you’re coming from downtown Burien, one way to go is take Ambaum Blvd SW north, and turn right on SW 116th St.  Then turn left on 10th Ave SW and look for the park’s parking lot north of the schools.  See map below.

Did you know there are not one but two disc golf courses in the Burien area?  Are you wondering what the heck disc golf is? Come discover disc golf and otdisc golf baskether surprises at little-known Lakewood Park  (just north of Evergreen High School) with the WABI Weekday Walkers. As usual, we walk on the third Wednesday of the month, Wednesday, November 18, at 9 am. We should have time to explore adjacent Seola Gardens.

Date: Wednesday, November 18, 2015
Time: Meet 5-10 minutes early so we can
leave promptly at 9:00 am.
Meeting Place:  Meet at the park’s parking lot off 10th Ave. SW between SW 116th St. and SW 108th St. Please do NOT park in the schools’ parking lots.  Cascade Middle School and Evergreen High School are to the south and will be in session.
Fun facts:  King County Council just approved a name change in October, from Lakewood Park to Dick Thurnau Memorial Park. Dick Thurnau was a longtime advocate of the community and the park, even going so far as to petition (successfully) the United States Board on Geographic Names to correct the name of the lake from Lake Hicks to Lake Hicklin.
