The morning started dry, but the Hot Spot Dot team ended up with wet heads and cold hands. Representatives from Burien Public Works Department, Urban Racks and WABI got together for a walk-through along SW 152nd. They discussed the locations for the bike racks coming in May, including such details as ADA compliance, right-of-way, loading zones, sidewalk access, café tables, garbage cans and car doors.

  • Brian Roberts, Public Works Dept., Asst. Director
  • Sam Basmeh, Public Works Dept., Civil Engineer
  • Elco Gauw, Urban Racks President
  • Maureen Hoffmann, WABI President
  • Brooks Stanfield, WABI Vice President
  • Jimmy Schulz, WABI Treasurer

Currently, WABI has a list of over 50 potential locations being considered for the first delivery of 41 racks. WABI invites suggestions of locations from community members. View the interactive map below and jot an e-mail with your idea for rack locations to info@wabiburien.org.

Would you like to sponsor a rack? It’s a rare opportunity to have your name/logo out in front of the public eye for five years for only $200. The Sponsorship Sprint will take place on Friday, April 19 at 9:00. Read important details here.

Sam, Maureen, Brian and Elco determine placement of a rack in front of Wells Fargo, at SW 152nd and Ambaum (so people no longer have to lock to the tree nearby).

Sam sprayed white Hot Spot Dots. Elco carried the 35 lb. bike rack from one end of town to the other and back.

How many Hot Spot Dot Duos can you find as you’re walking around town? Be on the lookout.

We had just determined the location for a bike rack at the south side of City Hall. Then we came back and found that someone, lacking a handy bike rack, had tucked their bike in behind a garbage can right at the entrance. Perfect timing.
