Seattle-Stairs

Walkers arrived at Burien’s Eagle Landing Park on Saturday, enthusiastic about walking down the 289 stairs… and then back up again.

This was just one of the 15 Seattle Stairway Walks featured all over Seattle and nearby cities. The walk was a Feet First event with collaboration from WABI Burien, launching the publication of the new book by Cathy and Jake Jaramillo, “Seattle Stairway Walks”.

Of the 25 to 30 walkers, some were frequent WABI “Walk-n-Talkers” from Burien. Others came from Bellevue, Redmond and Tukwila. Most of the walkers met first at Lake Burien Park (due to limited parking at Eagle Landing), walked the 6 blocks west while mixing and chatting along the way. When we arrived at Eagle Landing, we encountered other walkers that had begun their walk there, and our group grew in size. We also met up with other local Burien folks that frequent the park for daily stair runs, dog-walking and exploration with kids.

It was a dry, brisk day, ideal for walking the switchback, dirt path from the trailhead down to the beginning of the metal stairway. After descending, and upon arrival at the shoreside, we walkers were disappointed that we could not step down the last couple of feet to the beach. Recent storms had further worsened earlier damage to the bottom stairs creating a tumble of timber and metal.
