Let the bikes roll in Burien.

This morning, (June 12, 2013) starting at 6:30, the Burien Public Works crew installed 24 bike racks in the public right-of-way. The racks can now be found along SW 152nd, as well as other areas scattered throughout the city. (These photos were shot and provided by Samir Basmeh, Maintenance Manager for the City of Burien.)

The other 17 racks, of the 41 total, will be installed at selected private property locations (commercial shopping centers) once arrangements have been made with all of the property owners. The sponsorship plaques will be installed after all agreements have been completed and the plaques have been produced.

Here’s a link to the locations of the 41 racks: Burien Bike Rack Map

UPDATE:

As Screenwriter/Director Phil Alden Robinson wrote, “Build it and they will come.”
In this case, “Install them and they will come.”

It was with great pleasure that I saw this bike locked up to one of the bike racks yesterday just hours after Public Works finished installing the 24 racks in the public right-of-way along SW 152nd. I’ve heard from other folks through Facebook that they, too, had already used the racks yesterday.

Bravo. This was a good thing for Burien.
