This coming Sunday, August 9, about 150 cyclists will be on Day 2 of their 150-mile bike ride, “Obliteride”, to raise money for cancer research at Fred Hutch. The route will be bringing them through Normandy Park and Burien, right by or near our houses.

WABI Burien is organizing local folks to cheer the riders on. Let’s show them our city spirit. I want them to think “Wow! Burien is the most enthusiastic city along the whole route!”

Obliteride-Watch and Cheer

There are a couple of ways you can take part:

  1. Grab your cup of coffee and sit out in front of your house (if you live along the route), or anywhere else along the route, between 8:30 and 11:00 in the morning and applaud the riders as they go by.
  2. Go to one of the 4 cheering spots (on the attached map) and hang out with the group to encourage the riders. (WABI is still looking for a couple of people to head up cheering spots #3 and #4. Please get in touch if you’re interested in helping.)
  3. You may make a monetary donation toward cancer research at Fred Hutch. (It is, after all, a fundraiser.) We have a “WABI Burien” team if you wish to donate under our team name.

We have a few orange cow bells, some orange pom poms and signs if you’d like them to add color and noise to your applause. (Please get in touch and I’ll get the items to you.)

Please let other neighbors and friends know about the ride on Sunday.
I hope you’ll consider joining the cheering crowd in support of cancer research.
Far too many of us have had our lives jarred by cancer.

If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Thanks so much,
