Let’s discover 3 of Burien’s 25 City Parks on September’s Walk-n-Talk! For a small city, we have many gems of green space tucked here and there in various neighborhoods.

Date: Sunday, September 3, 2017 (85 degrees predicted, unlike the rain the last time we walked this.)
Time: Meet-up at 2:00. Walking starts at 2:15.
Place: Meet at Hazel Valley Park, 251 SW 126th St. On-street parking.
Who: Walkers of every level and ability
(dogs are welcome, too.)
Distance: About 2.75 miles, round trip, mostly flat, with some sidewalks.
Everyone walks at his or her own pace.

This is a FREE activity and draws people of many ages.
Just come chat with people you wouldn’t otherwise meet up with!

Route

We’ll start our walk at Hazel Valley Park, make a northern loop around several blocks then pass by Puget Sound Park. We’ll take the foot bridge up and over 1st Avenue South, then head north and west to Arbor Lake Park. From there we’ll head east, south, then back west, returning back to Hazel Valley Park.

Hazel Valley Park

251 SW 126th St.
This former King County park is located in North Burien and was acquired in the 2009 annexation. As a neighborhood park, it is known for its meandering path and is a great place to relax. It is 2.9 acres in size.

Puget Sound Park

135 SW 126th St.
This 5-acre park is located along 1st Avenue North in north Burien. The former King County Park was acquired when the City of Burien annexed the area in 2010.

Arbor Lake Park

12380 2nd Ave. S.
This 8.5-acre park includes a small lake. The lake is the headwaters for Miller Creek. Residents from the neighborhood around the Park have been very active in working to restore the park and clean up the areas around the lake (view photos). The park also has a playground for children.

Intentions for Burien’s Walk-n-Talk:

  • “Encourage active living to support physical and mental health.”
    (Part of Burien’s “Vision”.)
  • Initiate conversation between friends and neighbors, new and old.
  • Create our own little “volksmarch“, in the European tradition.
