Joining the popular WABI Walk-n-Talk once a month on a Sunday wasn’t enough for new WABI Walker, Laura Kennedy Gould, so she suggested starting a weekday walking group. So, in a burst of alliteration, WABI is pleased to launch its new recurring event:

WABI Weekday Walkers walk (…wait for it…) on Wednesdays!

Specifically, we’ll walk on the third Wednesday of the month for now. If there is interest and people are willing to lead walks, we hope to walk every Wednesday.

We’ll generally meet at a coffee shop or public place (like a park). We’ll meet at 8:45 in order to leave promptly on our walk at 9:00 am. The walk will typically be 1-2 hours and 3-5 miles. As with WABI’s Sunday Walk-n-Talks, you’ll walk at your own pace and have the chance to socialize with your fellow walkers.

We hope to explore not just Burien but other southend cities like Normandy Park, SeaTac, Tukwila, and Des Moines.

Come join us for the kickoff walk of the WABI Weekday Walkers, on August 21st at 9:00 am. We’ll explore Seahurst Park before it closes down in September for a major salmon restoration project.

About Laura Kennedy Gould

Laura Gould 07-2012v2

I’m Laura Kennedy Gould.  I recently moved to Burien from West Seattle. When I lived in Seattle, I walked with Sound Striders, a walking group sponsored by Seattle City Parks. Each month, the group meets in a coffee shop in a different neighborhood, and explores the ‘hood, with an emphasis on parks and public art. The program has been very successful (25-30 folks show up at the north or south groups every week!) and I would like to get a similar weekday walking program going for the South End. Please send me an e-mail to share your ideas.
