Our new year is starting out with some beautiful days to get out on two feet and two wheels! Blue skies, sunshine and brisk, fresh air. Time for a nice walk or a ride.

Happy New Year to all the WABI-ists… all of you that are involved or interested in WABI Burien, promoting our efforts to encourage more walking and biking. May you take many opportunities this year to be self-propelled for fun, for exercise, for transportation.

Bike Racks for Burien: Tired of locking your bike to a tree or signpost in Burien? Exciting news and special efforts! WABI has been working with the City of Burien toward the installation of bike racks around the city. WABI worked with Burien Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department to write a grant proposal for a “Downtown Burien Bike Rack Project”. In September, the City received news that it was selected to be awarded $10,000 from the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB). Efforts are being made for rack design, production, planning, mapping and the other myriad details to make it all happen. When this project is complete, we’ll have bike racks all over town. Stay tuned for updates and potential volunteer-requests on this project. READ MORE about the CERB Grant.

Volunteer Opportunities: Now and then WABI Burien needs extra hands and feet to help with our Bike/Ped events and advocacy efforts. If you’d like to take part, just because you’re gung-ho for two feet and two wheels, please send us an e-mail.

There are other local walking/biking opportunities on the horizon, and we’ll post details on this site when we hear about them. Of course, there are many regional organizations, too, that have their events.

WABI Burien rolls out wishes of robust, good health and vitality to all WABI-ists and their friends in this New Year. May you get your heart rate up, enjoy a healthy sweat, fill your lungs with fresh air and enjoy that resulting sense of well-being.
